At the age of seventy-two on November 30th, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer. Devoted wife of Stefano and loving mother and mother-in-law of Angela, Domenic (Talarico), Catherine and the late José Luis (Sanchez). Cherished nonna of Andrea, Stephanie, Francis (Talarico), Daniel and Michael (Sanchez). Beloved sister and sister-in-law of Pino, Rosa, Frank (Todaro), Giovanna (Notaro) and Fiore (Cerchiaro). Will be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews and friends in Québec, U.S.A., Italy and Acapulco. Funeral will take place on December 3rd, 10 a.m., at l'église St-Donat (6805 rue de Marseille, Montreal) In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MUHC Palliative Care Service and the Canadian Cancer Society.

Maria Rosa Opice (Mastroianni) Emigrated from Pianopoli with her family to Schenectady, N.Y. on November 1969Rosa Maria Opice Mastroianni, 86, of Princetown Road, Rotterdam, passed away suddenly at Pianopoli, Providence of Catanzaro, Italy on October 28, 2007. Mrs. Mastroianni was born in Pianopoli on September 21, 1921, the daughter of Antonio and Mariangela Maida Opice. She was an adoring mother and grandmother who shared her love with her family and friends abundantly. Her devotion to her beloved grandchildren was shown as her face would light up in their presence. She enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking and wine-making. She was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church. She was the wife of the late Antonio Mastroianni who passed away June 13, 1987. Survived by her children, Eleonora (Agostino) Esposito of Rotterdam, Anna (Aldo) Valentino of Guilderland, Joseph (Janet) Mastroianni of Rotterdam, Francesca Corcione of Albany, Gemma (Jonathon) Carroll of Dublin, Ireland, Mario Mastroianni of Rotterdam, Novella (Anthony) Teband of Rotterdam, S. Fernando (Leslie) Mastroianni of Chicago, Ill. She is also survived by her daughters-in-law, Maria Mastroianni of Rotterdam and Tomasina Mastroianni of Albany; her grandchildren, Rosamaria (Robert) Wetmore Antonio, Nicolina and Giulio, Vincenzo, Antonio, Maria, Nicola (Jen) Rosamaria, Linda (Chris) Baxter Joey, Thomas (Catherine) Megan and Michael, Lisa (Chris) Tarullo, Gina, Carla, Alexandra, Taylor, Attilio, Sophia, Lilliana, Michael; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Francis, Olivia, Nathaniel and Simon. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mastroianni was predeceased by her sons, Vincenzo and Francesco Mastroianni; her brothers, Saverio and Antonio Opice; her sister, Caterina Rifiorati; and son-in-law, Sam Corcione. Funeral services and burial were held in Pianopoli. A memorial Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. November 24 at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Princetown Road, Rotterdam. ROTTERDAM Vincenzo Mastroianni, 57, of Rotterdam, died Friday, September 12, 2003 at Ellis Hospital. Born in Pianopoli, Catanzaro, Italy, Vincenzo came to the United States in 1968. He worked as a laborer for 30 years with Local 157 in Schenectady and retired in 2000. Vincenzo loved gardening and making wine. He was hard working and was very conscientious. He was a member of the Rotterdam Soccer Club and Our Lady of Assumption Church. Survivors include his beloved wife of 32 years, Maria Cimmino Mastroianni; four children, Rosamaria Wetmore of Albany, Antonio Mastroianni, Nicolina Mastroianni and Giulio Mastroianni, all of Rotterdam; his mother, Rosamaria Mastroianni of Rotterdam; nine brothers and sisters, Francesco (Thomasina) Mastroianni of Albany, Eleonora (Agostino) Esposito of Rotterdam, Anna (Aldo) Valentino Guilderland, Giuseppe (Janet) Mastroianni of Rotterdam, Francesca (Sabato) Corcione of Albany, Gemma Mastroianni (Jonathan) Carroll of Dublin, Ireland, Mario Mastroianni of Rotterdam, Novella (Anthony) Tebano of Rotterdam and Fernando (Leslie) Mastroianni of Glen Ellyn, Ill. His mother-in-law, Nicolina Cimmino of Rotterdam; and brother-in-law, Domenico Cimmino also of Rotterdam. Vincenzo is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, 8:15 from the De-Marco Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., followed at 9 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Assumption Church. Calling hours will be Sunday, 5-8 p.m. Entombment, Evergreen Memorial Park, Colonie.

Assunta Scalise

SCALISE, Assunta Assunta Scalise, 78, of Colchester and formerly of Hartford, widow of the late Gaetano Scalise, went home to Heaven on the Feast of Mary, Mother of God Sunday (January 1, 2006) surrounded by her loving family. Born August 13, 1927 in Pianopoli, Italy, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Isabella (Pugliese) Cuda. In July of 1947, she and Gaetano were married at the Church of the Addolorata in Pianopoli, and they emigrated to the United States in 1961, settling in Hartford. Later, they moved to Colchester in 1986. Together, they shared 57 years of marriage before he predeceased her on March 3, 2001. She loved music and was a tremendous cook, but most importantly, will be remembered for her undying love and devotion to her family. She will be greatly missed. Survivors include three children and their spouses, Frank and Gail Scalise of Lebanon and Mario and Danielle Scalise and Maria and Louis Amara, all of Colchester; eight grandchildren, Kimberly, Tina, Liza, Michael, Joseph, Jason, Elizabeth and Lindsay; seven great-grandchildren, Amanda, Kameryn, Dyllon, Nicholas, Cyrus, Johnny and Alexis; and numerous extended family and friends. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester. The Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday directly at St. Peter's Church, 30 Church St. (Rte. 85), Hebron, with Fr. Perry Perine, officiating. Entombment will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Mausoleum, Bloomfield.

Herkimer - Mr. Agostino Faga, 93, of 207 E. Steele St. passed away Monday, September 26, 2005 .He was born in Pianopoli, Province of Catanzaro, Italy on September 6, 1912, the son of the late Angelo and Rose Casale Faga and he attended schools there. He was married to Natalina Torchia on September 6, 1942 in St. Thomas Church, Pianopoli. He came to this country in November of 1954. Mr. Faga.He was also a self employed electrician throughout the Mohawk Valley for many years. He was a communicant of Sts. Anthony And Joseph Church.Agostino is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Natalina Faga; two sons & daughters in law, Angelo & Mary Jane Faga of Albany and Joseph & Lina Faga of Naples, Italy; two daughters & sons in law, Rosa & Donald Fitch of VA and Mary & Richard Tyner of MD; twelve grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by three sisters, Domenica Cuda, Francesca Madia and Raffaela Filippa.His funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 12:30 pm from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer and at 1:00 pm in Sts. Anthony And Joseph Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Anthony Ligato. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. She was born in Pianopoli 27 January 1907 Emigrated to Canada early 1950's with family.

She leaves Sons; Saverio, Antonio, Raffaele, Angelo and two doughters, Concettina, and Vincenzina, in addition 14 grandchildren, 25 great-granchildren and 1 great-great-grandhcild. (Lascia 6 figli, 14 nipoti, 25 pro-nipoti e 1 pro-pro-nipota.)
She was preceded by her Husband Raffaele, one brother Agostino Cuda -Schenectady, New York, and 3sisters in Italy; Giuseppina Cuda (Fiorentino), Rosina Pasqualina Cuda (Mascaro)Pianopoli, and MariaAngela Cuda (Mascaro) Ascoli Piceno.
