My father Agostino Fagà emigrated to USA in November 1954 and settled in Herkimer, New York. He has worked at Standard Furniture Co. on South Washington St. where many other people emigrated from Pianopoli worked.
After two years waiting, the rest of the family emigrated; my mother Natalina, my brother Angelo, myself, my sisters Rosa and Mary. We travelled on the ship SS Constitution that departed port of Napoli on December 9, 1956 and arrived December 20, 1956, 11 days later on an early morning fog in New York City pier 84, in time to celebrate our first Christmas in America at our new home at 111-1/2 West Smith St. Herkimer.
It sure remains an unforgettable one.. Our first Christmas tree was full of colored lights, decorated with ornament balls, tinsels, and full of surpirse gift underneath waiting for us to open them up. This sure was a different Christmas that we were used to have in Pianopoli. God Bless America.
One thing that I truly missed, and that was the Church Presepio, the beautiful nativity scene with all the sheperds, the animals, and the little houses that I have always admired together with my friends.

fron left my sister Mary, my parents Natalina, Agostino (on laps is) Rosa, Angelo and myself.. Giuseppe but in USA my name became as Joseph (Joe)
